Been running the U17-5 a bunch lately and I gotta say, that new thumb control on the joystick instead of down at your foot makes long jobs way less tiring. I never liked stomping that old pedal, always felt like I was gonna break it. Now it's just a finger flick, much more natural, and you get pretty good fine control for the thumb. I did notice it took me a bit to get used to the diverter switch when swapping over to run an auger, but once you figure it out, you don’t have to mess with hoses anymore. Saves time, but sometimes I wish the hydraulic coupler thing was more plug and play. Oh, and maintenance? Still straightforward, same old engine, everything tucked where you’d expect, so no complaints. Not wild about only having rubber track options, but honestly haven't needed steel on something this size. So, good machine, some handy upgrades, makes work just that bit smoother, though it ain’t all revolutionary.

I've been operating mini excavators for years. The U17-5 feels familiar but smarter. The two thumb controls and Ox 1 make hooking up and switching attachments quick. Thumb controls give good precision for digging around utilities and fine grading. LED work lights actually help when I'm starting before sunrise - fewer blind spots on the bucket. Auto idle is handy, it drops revs when I'm holding position so fuel use and noise go down. Foot platform and operator layout are more spacious, so long days are less tiring. Machine feels solid, same build quality U7s had before. Minor gripe: thumbs felt a bit light at first, took a few hours to find the right touch. Overall it's an easy machine to run.
